Certified Organic Safflower Oil

Safflower provides three principal products: oil, meal and birdseed. Safflower oil consists of two types: those high in monounsaturated fatty acid triglycerides, principallyoleic acid, and those high in polyunsaturated fatty acid triglycerides, principally linoleic acid.

The predominant market is for those varieties that produce oil seed high in oleic acid and very low in saturated fatty acids. High-oleic safflower oil is lower in saturates and higher in monounsaturates than olive oil. High-oleic oil is a beneficial agent in the prevention of coronary artery disease.

Safflower is a thistle-like plant. The seed oil content ranges from 30 to 50 percent, depending on variety grown and environmental conditions. Flower color is usually yellow or orange, although some varieties have red or white flowers. Plant height varies between 15 and 30 inches, depending on the variety and environmental conditions. The taproot of safflower can penetrate to depths of 8 to 10 feet in deep soils. Because of it deep taproot system, safflower is more tolerant to drought than small grains and other oilseed crops.
Allyson Enterprises’ Certified Organic Safflower Oil is of the high-oleic acid type, typically containing about 76% oleic acid triglyceride. The oil has been refined, bleached and deodorized to provide the cleanest product possible. Since the level of residual proteinaceous material in refined, bleached and deodorized vegetable oils is typically 0%, the allergenic potential is extremely low. Safflower oil is considered nonallergenic.
Cosmetically, safflower oil has an elegant, very lubricious feel and is relatively easy to emulsify. Safflower oil provides gloss, smoothing, skin softening, emolliency and conditioning. It finds multiple uses in sun care, hair care, skin care and color cos-metics.Typical use levels are 1 – 8% but body oils and similar products often use much higher levels.
